Recurrance: Varicose veins are caused by injuries to the valves in the leg veins. It may be associated with similar injuries to the valves in the deep system. Treatment of the superficial veins (varicose) should be followed by compression stocking therapy to prevent recurrence. Not doing this is a significant reason why the varicosities come back months to years later.

Progression of v v: As dr. Simpson said, vein disease is chronic. Treatment never guarantees that you will never get another bad vein as long as you live. As drs. Chideckel and berg said, it is time to see someone about your veins and have an evaluation that includes a venous ultrasound.

Recurrent VV: Varicose veins can recur after treatment. The most common cause of recurrent varicose veins is malfunctioning (refluxing) of a feeding valve to the varicose veins. This could be due to several reasons. If you have recurrent varicose veins then you should see a vein specialist for a full venous evaluation including a venous duplex examination.
