Experience counts: Your surgeon told you that because theses benign tumors are taken out all the time for patients and it does not improve pain. These are incidental findings from exam and mri. They can cause some compression but are often so small that this is insignificant. The lipoma itself does not cause pain. You may be disappointed if you have it taken out thinking that your pain will improve.

Second opinion: Have you had xray studies such as a ct or MRI to look at this mass / lipoma and see what it is near? You may need a second opinion if those things have been done and the doctor doesn't have another reason for the pain and doesn't recommend taking out the mass or lipoma.
