A member asked:

All of my pain is in my right leg rather than my back, will my discectomy not get rid of the pain in my legs at all and just my back?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

If due to disc: If your pain down your leg is due to a disc herniation & you have not responded to 12 weeks of nonop care, the surgical success rate is at least 90% of relieving your pain symptoms unless you smoke & then the success rate is less. Typically, disc herniations cause some or no back pain with the leg pain predominating. Mri or ct should reveal nerve compression by a disc herniation c/w symptoms.
