3000-6000 milligrams: The more inflammatory fat in your diet, the more fish oil is necessary. The average american will start to see benefits at 2500 milligrams a day. Fish oil does not increase risk of aneurysm. A recent study did not find increased bleeding after heart surgery in patients taking fish oil. However, i ask my patients to stop taking fish oil two weeks prior to surgery as a precaution.

2-4 per day: One can take at least 4 a day but question is whether really needed. Only would consider if you have very elevated triglycerides. You may end up getting exposed to mercury if take too much. Also never heard that fish oil can cause an aneurysm.

3000 mg: 3000mg or 3 grams daily would be the max. Doubtful about increasing increasing the risk of aneurysm. New info showed no benefit in decreasing cardiovascular events.
