You can live normal : The old fashioned notion that lupus is a fatal disease is wrong misconception. It is a fact that we do not have a cure for lupus and some people still die from lupus, but vast majority with non organ threatening lupus can expect normal life if they follow the doctors advice, take their prescribed meds and follow up with their doctors if any complications arise.

It depends: Lupus treatment has improved over the past two decades. Most patients are living longer. Some have a severe life threatening form of lupus that can have a shorter life expectancy. This is the case if lupus causes organ damage such as the kidneys or brain. Some of the medications, especially prednisone, can also cause damage. Patients die from lupus itself, infections, and heart attacks/strokes.

SEVERITY, COMPLIANCE: With new medications, patients with lupus can lead normal life.It depends on the patient, severity of lupus, compliance with medications and physician visits.
