Iron deficiency.: The most connon cause of microcytic anemia and high platelets would be iron deficiency. There are some more rare possibilities. If iron deficiency, treatment is easy, but the cause must be found, since iron deficiency almost always is because of blood loss. Menstruation/pregnancy/lactation is the most common cause, but bleeding from the GI tract has to be considered also.
