A member asked:

My 12 year old has a scratch on her finger that looks to be infected. she is a gymnasts. we are concerned about mrsa.?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Could be....or not: Most MRSA form pustules, which are sacs of pus that often need to be drained for cure. MRSA is responsible for 70% of the pustules/abscesses we drain in the office. It is neither rare or hard to treat. Many simple scratch wounds are caused by other germs including strep & may self heal with good local wound care. If painful or increasing in size, it should be examined.
