Venous flow: Unlike arteries, veins do no have a muscle layer that propels blood through the system. It is the contraction of muscles in the legs that moves blood back to the heart. Inactivity— sitting or standing long time without moving— can contribute to venous pooling in lower legs & feet. In some, that may contribute to venous blood clots. Prevention: walk around, flex feet up & down, stand & move about.
