A member asked:

I just had cholesteatoma removed last december and need another to reconstruct my middle ear bone. what would happen if i still have some tumor left?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not a tumor: Cholesteatoma is a misnomer but unfortunately, terminology persists. This problem is really a cyst of skin (keratoma) growing into the middle ear, attic, and possibly mastoid. Reconstruction for hearing as a second stage operation may help and at the same time the surgeon can make sure that no more skin persists. It is not a tumor.
