Infection: Puss pockets represent local areas of inflammation and infection. When these problems are localized in the jaw, they may indicate either tooth (dental) or soft tissue/gum (periodontal) abscesses. Either cause requires immediate attention from a dentist to avoid spreading of the infection that could result in a medical emergency.
