Unknown: Fibroids are the most common tumor of the uterus and is almost always benign. The uterus is made up of smooth muscle mostly and the fbroid tumor forms when one of these muscle cell starts dividing. We don't know what exactly causes this growth. It does have some hereditary component. They are not related in any way to pcos.

They are not related: Fibroids are usually benign muscle tumors that are somewhat genetically controlled and can be found in members of families. Polycystic ovarian syndrome is also a genetic disorder but this is one where there is higher levels of male hormones, Insulin resistance, and abnormal ovulation. Despite the fact that these are both genetic in origin they are not related genetically as far as we know.

Fibroids: Are a growth of cells of the muscle wall of the uterus. These cells grow in response to your normal estrogen levels instead of staying stable. They potentially grow until menopause then will shrink. Fibroids don't cause pcos. Unlikely pcos will affect fibroids very much.
