You can : Take anti-inflammatories that are over the counter like alleve or motrin. Naprosyn (naproxen) 500mg twice a day is a precription it is the same medicine as alleve except the alleve is not 500mg, i believe it is 275mg, so you can take 3 alleve over the course of the day to substitute for the 2 naprosyn (naproxen). Hot water soaks or compresses are good to. But, ideally you want to maintain your uric acid levels under 6.

He's right!: Gout is a side effect of too much uric acid in the blood, but it can cause renal stones, urate nephropathy, and is strongly associated with metabolic syndrome and heart disease, as an independent risk factor. Treating each episode of gout with nsaids is insane, unless you treat the cause. It will simply recur, ultimately causing permanent arthritis in joints, and hurt other organs too!
