A member asked:

I have chest pains. whenever i have them my heart rate gets faster and my heart skips a beat. what could it be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Should be evaluated: Question is whether the palpitations are causing the chest pain or vice versa. Elevated heart rate may be a normal response to some stressor such as chest pain or may be due to some inherent "short circuit" in the heart that could be causing it. Some of these are normal variants and don't pose any significant risk whereas others may be to a potentially dangerous rhythm disturbance.
