What does gingivitis look like?

Red, sore: Puffy, inflamed, red to purplish gums that bleed easily with the slightest touch. Gums can be loose and detached from the tooth and bone. Might have a fetid odor. Gums can also be white to gray in the papilla area in advanced cases where the tissue becomes necrotic. By comparison, healthy gums should be pink, tight around the teeth, no bleeding, tough and resistant to injury during brushing.

Coral pink : Coral pink is the color of healthy gums, generally. When you have gingiviitis they star to get darker red. If you suffer from severe gingivitis then a nice red tomato color is what you'll see. Usually, but not always, the different shades of red are acccompanied with bleeding and bad odors. Simply put...Go see a dentist to put your mind at ease.

Red swollen gums: Red and swollen gums, that bleed easily to brushing and/ or flossing. If neglected- this condition will advance to periodontitis - which is severe gum problem, with teeth loss, bone loss etc.

Gingivitis: The gums are puffy and cherry red in color around the teeth. Gums bleed very easy when the teeth are brushed or when food touches them during normal eating. The pocket measurements around the teeth are usually 4 mm + but usually less than 5 mm. When you have gingivitis, you may not be losing bone but you are heading in that direction. It forms within 48 hours if you stop brushing and flossing.

Gingivitis: Gingivitis literally means "inflammation of the gum tissue". It is usually caused by a reaction to plaque, the bacterial biofilm that sticks to the teeth. Symptoms include swollen, red, tender and painful gums, as well as bleeding after brushing and/or flossing. Treatment includes removing the plaque and calculus. Failure to treat can result in tooth loss, decay, and periodontitis.
