It depends: Wrist pain can be caused by many things. Doctors are trained to make a diagnosis and treat. The treatment for pain of arthritis (anti-inflammatants) is different from the treatment for carpal tunnel pain (surgery or splints) which is different from trauma pain (rest/casting or sometimes surgery or physical therapy) which is different for nerve pain, etc. See your doctor for a diagnosis.

Wrist Pain: First thing is rest the wrist. Second thing, have it evaluated as there are many forms of wrist pain, some of which i.E scaphoid and scapho-lunate ligament injuries, can get always get a lot worse. There are certain conditions that are readily treatable non-surgically early on, only to be come difficult surgical challenges if left to progress.
