A member asked:

If my sister has herpes and my 1yr old daughter put her tooth brush in her mouth, can my daughter get it now?

Possibly: If your sister has an active case of herpes and the pustules are leaking fluid which contains actual virus the yes it is possible. Otherwise highly unlikely.

Active cold sores: If there is an active oral lesion such as a cold sore, then the virus is transmittable. The herpes virus doesn't survive very long on the countertop though. If we are talking about genital herpes, that isnt a concern. As the virus is transmitted through direct contact through mucos membranes.
