Local reaction tx: Insect bites should be washed with soap and water. An ice or cold pack may help reduce local swelling. Topical creams, gels and lotions such as those containing calamine or pramoxine decrease itching. Avoid topical anesthetic and antihistamine preparations.

See below: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Hydrocortisone can help but if there is a rash, see a physician for evaluation asap.

Remove: First i would make sure the tick is removed. The best way is to grasp with a pair of tweezers and pull straight out. Once out, if the are is red, i would apply a topical steroid cream, Hydrocortisone is available otc. Be on the lookout for a red ring around the tick bite, as this can be a signal that you could have lyme disease from the tick. If you suspect this see your doctor. Dr. Lana long.

Cream: I have used a Hydrocortisone cream to help with this, is does help the itch. Swelling is the response to a foreign entity. Stopping the itch will help so the swelling does not get worse. If red and warm to the touch the site may be infected and will need antibiotics.
