SROM - EMERGENCY!: Rupture of membranes whether spontaneous at term (srom) or even worse preferment/premature (pprom) is a pregnancy emergency. It typically heralds labor and delivery within a few hours to a week. The longer the interval latency period the greater the risk for serious or even life-threatening infections. See your obstetrician or midwife emergently to avoid complications. Smoking predisposed to pprom.
