Get help Immediately: This is a dangerous situation which needs immediate care. You will need bed rest, Heparin followed up with oral anti-coagulant medications. How do you know you have blood clots? Was it diagnosed by a physician?
Dr. Bradley Thomas
Vascular Surgery 19 years experience
Blood thiners: If this blood clot is is a deep vein, treatment would consist of anticoagulation with 3-6 months of blood thinners. I would also strongly recommend the use of compression stockings to prevent future problems. A physician also needs to try to determine if this was a "provoked" or "unprovoked" dvt. If there was no obvious cause then further work up maybe needed.

Can vitamins stop blood clots in the legs?

Dr. Christopher Coller
Family Medicine 13 years experience
Uncertain: I am unaware of any vitamins that are as potent as meds such as aspirin, Coumadin (warfarin) or plavix. However, there is data showing that supplements such as fish oil, vitamin e, and vitamin c have some blood thinning properties. Regardless, addressing the reason for blood clots in the legs is very important. Dealing with weight, immobility, and inflammation in the blood vessels is crucial for prevention.

Do teenagers get blood clots in their legs?

2 doctor answers8 doctors weighed in
Dr. Edward Neilsen
Family Medicine 19 years experience
Possible...but rare: Anyone can potentially get blood clots, but it is rare in younger people. Many things can predispose a person to clots - inactivity, obesity, hormone replacement or birth control, and many clotting disorders. Many of these are avoidable or at least modifiable. If a teenager were to get a blood clot, they should probably be tested for a clotting disorder.
