A member asked:

Can excessive coffee and water damage your kidney?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Circular question: Excessive implies that the damage has occurred. Coffee and water in normal amounts have no ill effect on renal function. Avid coffee drinkers are not prone to renal disease. Over ingestion of water can occur in psychiatric conditions and in exercise induced hyponatremia. Ingestion of water during "raves" especially with the use of "ectasy" can result in severe hyponatremia.
