Would a hiatal hernia show up in ct scan or hida scan?

Maybe: It can be seen on a ct scan if the hiatal hernia is large enough. It would best be seen on endoscopy or maybe an upper GI swallowing x-ray. It would not be seen on a hida scan.

CT scan: A hiatal hernia is a hernia or enlarged opening in the diaphragm where the esophagus comes through into the abdominal cavity. It can be seen on endoscopy, some xrays, and ct scans. A hida scan is a function test of the gall bladder and it will not show a hiatal hernia.

CT Usually, HIDA No: Hiatal hernia, or a portion (usually small) of the stomach that works it's way from the abdomen into the chest, can usually be seen on a ct of the chest or the abdomen. Upper GI xray examination or upper GI endoscopy can also detect hiatal hernia. A hida scan looks at the function of the liver and gallbladder and would not visualize a hiatal hernia.
