Yes: Alcohol is a risk factor for squamous cell carcinoma (scc) of the esophagus. In fact smoking and alcohol combined increases the risk of scc of the esophagus 44 times.

Yes: Yes, and especially if you smoke. Alcohol is a known risk factor for several gastrointestinal cancers, including the esophagus. In those who both smoke and drink, the risks are vastly higher than in non-smokers, non-drinkers.
