Alcohol increases cancer risk. but what is worse? 1 or 2 glasses per day or one bottle (5 glasses) one day per week which is much less than the 7-14 per week if you drink within the government limit. i get that no amount is actually ok?

Elevated cancer risk from alcohol is modest, and probably no different for the drinking patterns you describe. As for "no amount is OK", not everyone agrees. Some physicians on this forum would advise zero alcohol for all people, but many would agree that most people's health is not seriously affected by small to moderate amounts. In any case, cancer isn't the main health risk from excess alcohol.

It is better to go with the concept that no amount of alcohol is okay. There are no controlled trials showing a beneficial effect of the so called "one drink a day". The epidemiologic data suggest a benefit from half a drink a day, only. For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco.
