Can bladder cancer remain hidden on a sonogram of the bladder & kidneys?

Yes: Bladder cancer can easily be missed on sonogram of the bladder and kidneys, especially if the tumor is small or flat. The definitive test for diagnosis is a cystoscopy where a small telescope is placed into the bladder to visualize the lining of the bladder. At the same time, a biopsy is taken to confirm the diagnosis.

Sonogram: Yes. Ultrasound is not a good imaging modality for bladder cancer. It requires cystoscopic examination by a urologist for proper diagnosis.

Yes, it can be ...: No test is 100% accurate and every disease always displays itself as a pattern of full spectrum so that at its very earliest stage of bladder lining cancer (transitional cell carcinoma), all imaging studies and even a direct look (cystoscopy) may miss it. And this type of cancer needs to be followed. In a lifelong manner. Ask and talk with expert for general and specific detail. Best...
