No: Many dentists do extractions. Some dentists refer out all there extractions to an oral surgeon. You usually need a referral to an oral surgeon.

No, but consider...: Many dentists take out teeth but many do not. If you need a tooth removed this is most easily and efficiently done by an oral surgeon. You are most likely to have a short surgery (10 minutes or less) , have less pain, and have less risk of complications. Also, your surgeon can offer you more options for anesthesia.

Extractions: This is a judgement call between your dentist and you depending on the complexity if the extractions. Oral surgeons do extractions all day long and generally have the tooth out quicker with less trauma. They can also handle any complications, medically better.
