What is a ppi?

Class of antacid..: The famous purple pill(prilosec) is an example of proton-pump-inhibitor often used to treat gastritis/ulcers, reflux etc...It reduces acid by inhibiting the chemical pumps in your stomache that makes the acid--hydrochloric acid, thus reducing the acidity in your stomach and associated pain. There are quite a few now--nexium, prevacid, protonix, aciphex, and dexilant (dexlansoprazole). Consult doc. Good luck.
