Diet/exercise: Sorry i know you're probably sick of hearing this but studies have shown that the best treatment to improve sugar level and prevent progression to diabetes is diet to lose weight (5-7% weight loss) and exercise (30 min of moderate activity 5 days/week). This was done in the diabetes prevention program and it showed doing the above prevent progression to diabetes by 58% (better than using a drug).

Diet/excercise: Pre-diabetic does not mean you have diabetes, it only means you are at a greater risk to develop the disease, if you control your diet, you do execise, and you loose weight if you are over weight/obese you will most like decrease the risk of diabetes.
