Omphalitis!: Belly button infections are quite rare in adults, unless due to trauma from piercings. This usually responds to oral antibiotics. If it recurs, one should search for an umbilical cord remnant connecting the belly button to the intestine or bladder (this can be seen on cat scan). If present, surgical excision is necessary.
