Effexor (venlafaxine): Not necessarily. It just means you are not ready to come off of it. Periodic assessment by your doctor are important.

No, ask doc about:: Unfortunately not uncommon for effexor (venlafaxine) and other norepinephrine increasing antidepressants (eg cymbalta, less so wellbutrin) to cause rebound anxiety unless very very slowly tapered off. If too many times anxiety returns despite good compliance, a trial of a regular ssri ( prozac, lexapro, zoloft, or celexa) can be a much better option. Even if optimal effect- need taken at least 6-8 mo.
