Glucose control: During pregnancy mothers have a physiologic adjustment and become Insulin resistant. This is for fetal exchange of nutrients.

Same as when not: Insulin acts like a cab, transporting glucose from the blood into the cell. Pregnancy can reveal mother's emerging problem keeping her glucose levels in the normal range, causing them to drift up. The fetus makes its own insulin & must put away any excess. Mothers high glucose can cause organ overgrowth in baby & increase risk of birth defects. Mother may need a supplement to decrease babies risks
