Several Problems: The toxin from beta hemolytic group a strep can attack connective tissues. Acute arthritis, a generalized skin red rash called scarlet fever, rheumatic fever with heart valve damage and acute glomerulonephritis which damages the kidneys.

Several things: Progressive, invasive strep infections of the throat or skin can occur with the potential for spread but the main reason for adequate therapy of strep throat is the prevention of rheumatic fever. Scarlet fever occurs initially if it is to occur so it is not related to inadequate therapy and does not cause arthritis.
