Risk of gallstones: Gallstones can remain asymptomatic. They can also cause gallbladder infection, obstruction of pancreas and/or obstruction of liver. The last two can be life-threatening. Surgeons and docs recommend gallbladder removal when the stones are diagnosed and the patient is symptomatic, with bloating, belching, pain. The risk/benefit analysis is typically in favor of laprascopic cholecystectomy.
