Compared to...: ....Mastectomy without reconstruction, excellent! when considering breast reconstruction following mast-x, it's critical to understand what the surgery can and cannot do.This is best done by looking at photographs of women who have had the same procedure by the same surgeon. Unfortunately, one will not have the same look, feel, or sensation as before surgery, but it can help many cope w/the loss.

Very nice option: For those who desire breast reconstruction, there are many option which may use a combination of implants, flaps and more recently fat grafting. This generally takes a few procedures for ideal results. See a plastic surgeon to discuss the many choices available to you.

Very Well!: It's important to realize that no one can create a normal appearing breast, but sometimes the results can be quite good. Talk with a plastic surgeon about your desires and concerns. They can then tailor a reconstruction to your needs.

Works well: Several good options, either using your own tissue (from another part of the body), or breast implants. Tissue options are better in patients that have radiation. More than 1 surgery is often needed. The nipple and areola can also be reconstructed. Some patients also have surgery on the other breast for best symmetry. Like all surgery there are risks. It is safe in good surgical candidates.
