How is post tramautic stress disorder treated?

PTSD treatment: The most effective treatments for ptsd are 1) cognitive-behavioral therapy that includes gradual exposure to distressing situations, reminders and triggers in imagination and then real life and 2) eye movement desensitization & reprocessing (emdr). Either one should be combined with relaxation training and provided in a safe, supportive environment by an empathic therapist.

Ptsd Tx options: I agree with dr. Stewart. There is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy called cognitive processing therapy that is quite effective for ptsd. Emdr and virtual reality exposure therapy are also useful as well as group therapy and psychoeducation. For moderate to severe ptsd, psychotropic medications may be indicated. Take care.
