A member asked:

My cousin gave birth to a baby who has that harlequin disease. what is it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Harlequin ichthyosis: Is the result of a genetic mutation and results in thick and cracked skin. If this is the case then she will most likely see a dermatologist for long term assistance. There is also a harlequin effect where one side of the baby turns red and the other white like a harlequin. This is due to immaturity of the vascular/sympathetic nervous system and improves with time.
