A member asked:

If you was diagnosis with dka and was put on insulin and now your sugar level be 70 and80, do you still suppose to be taking insulin?

Yes: Hi. Your sugar is well controlled BECAUSE of the insulin. Type 1 is more likely to get DKA than type 2, although either type can get DKA. Type 1's have a honeymoon period once on insulin where control gets very easy for a period of time. I will assume you're type 1, but accept you could be type 2; of course the distinction matters if you're asking about the need to stay on insulin. Be careful.

YES: Blood sugar levels are now excellently controlled and have your physician monitor A1c levels. Do not stop taking insulin and check blood sugars before meals and at bedtime. Bring you sugar journal to your physician next visit.
