A member asked:

What does a fructose breath test result of positive mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Malabsorption: If a person cannot digest and absorb a sugar such as fructose or lactose, it is fermented by bacteria in the intestine and hydrogen gas is liberated that can be detected in the expired air. A positive test showing hydrogen in breath indicates inability to digest and absorb that sugar, in your case, fructose.
