What are the odds that my child will be born with birth defects?

Many factors: Overall, the risk of birth defect is in the 2-4% range. But multiple other factors can change that - maternal age is the biggest, but also consider your history of other birth defects. Check with your obgyn for details.

2-4% like EV1 else.: All couples have a 2-4% risk of congenital defects in their offspring. Some have increased risk - e.g. Obese mothers, pregestational diabetics, epileptics, women with previously affected children etc. Take Folic Acid 1-5mg orally daily throughout your reproductive life to decrease the risk of preterm birth and certain serious congenital defects (spina bifida, anencephaly, heart anomalies)!
