Why not?: Being vegetarian doesn't necessarily make you more or less likely to get sick from many diseases unrelated to nutrition. If you are asking from a nutrition perspective, some vegetarians, particularly vegans, can become vitamin B12 and iron deficient. Checking with a knowledgeable doctor would be wise to make sure that you are eating the right foods and getting the right nutrition..

Not a bad idea: I'm vegetarian - and supplement B12 and utilize supplements for protein and iron. To get to the point - supplementation is often "blind" when you don't have blood levels and can be unnecessarily costly. I recommend an iron profile, B12 at least once a year to gauge your needs and if any symptoms occur. A doctor can assure you are obtaining all necessary nutrients given dietary restrictions.
