Herpes/intercourse: First of all, if know you have herpes, you should never have unprotected sex (use a condom). This applies to both genital as well as oral sex. Transmission of the herpes virus is a constant risk, even if there is not an active, open sore. So, in this sense, the harm would be transmission of the virus to your partner. Since there are various strains of the virus, you could super-infect a partner.
