A member asked:

What happens during a nerve conduction study?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

EMG: This test evaluates nerve and muscle fnctn to determine if it is normal. Testing of nerves involves applying an electrical shock over a nerve and recording the response over a muscle connected to the nerve. Results can be compared to normal values for voltage and velocity, and both motor and sensory function can be included. The muscle can directly be tested using a small needle. Very safe!
