Inositol: Is a supplement found to be of some benefits for hair & cholesterol, eyes & skin. I am not aware of its use for severe anxiety & doubt it has benefits there.

May help: Inositol powder may help in anxiety. In one study it was as effective as the antidepressant fluvoxamine in the treatment of panic disorder. http://tinyurl.com/8mur3lq a review in natural medications for psychiatric disorders (ed mischoulon & rosenbaum) found that inositol may be helpful in panic, ocd, depression, and bulimia. It didn't help in psychosis, adhd, or autism.

Helps panic attacks&: In a double-blind controlled study inositol was found to be more effective than fluvoxamine (prozac) in reducing panic attacks & in those patients it worked as well as fluvoxamine for relieving anxiety & agoraphobia. It is also proven useful for OCD & depression. More research is needed but it is safe and many people have found it helpful. See http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pubmed/11386498.
