Yes, if deficient: Our bodies produce thyroid hormone by combining tyrosine with iodine. Thus, if one is deficient in tyrosine it might cause hypothyroidism. Our body synthesizes tyrosine from phenylalanine, so that deficiency (which is not unusual) can also cause hypothyroidism.
