What's a crisis?: Hypertensive crisis is an ill-defined term which is usually taken to mean high BP readings coupled with heart, brain or kidney damage directly related to the high bp. It does not mean simply having very high numbers. True hypertensive crises need to be treated in the hospital, often in an ICU setting.
