Heart and thyroid : A palpitation is the sensation that one's heart is beating abnormally. Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland produces an inadequate amount of thyroid hormone. In some adults, depending on the severity of the hypothyroidism, there can be irregular heart beats. Palpitations are very common otherwise and most often occur independent of hypothyroidism.
