Easy to tell: The familiar blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples of common acne, especially where clothing or a gym machine may rub on the lower back, are easy to distinguish from all the common hiv-related skin lesions including the brown-red, non-tender, non-suppurating lesions of kaposi's. The call should be easy, and it may be neither!
