Medicines used to treat neuropathy are effective at controlling symptoms, but not reversing the condition. They work best at treating shooting, prickling, buzzing, burning, electrical symptoms. Some medications used commonly to treat discomfort from peripheral neuropathy include Gabapentin (neurontin), Pregabalin (lyrica), duloxetine (cymbalta), Amitriptyline (elavil), capsaicin (zostrix), Carbamazepine (tegretol), b vitamin supplements (such as metanx). Controlling the underlying cause (diabetes, thyroid issues, rheumatoid, others) can prevent or delay worsening.
