Is zetia (ezetimibe) a weaker statin than the rest of the cholesterol drugs?

It's not a statin.: Zetia (ezetimibe) is a cholesterol absorption blocker. By itself, it can lower LDL levels by no more than 18% or so, which is relatively weak compared to some statins. However, when combined with a statin, it can give much more significant LDL lowering. Ask your doctor if this medication is right for you.

Weaker yes statin no: Zetia (ezetimibe) is weaker than most statin medications when it comes to cholesterol reduction. However it is not a statin and, in fact, has an entirely different mechanism of action working to prevent dietary cholesterol absorption rather than decrease hepatic cholesterol production (the statins mechanism). Zetia (ezetimibe) can be used alone or in combination with a statin.
