Prevents most events: Statins (but not zetia) can markedly decrease the risk of heart attack and stroke, depending on one's risk. Those at highest risk (e.g. 65 years old with diabetes, hypertension, smoker, cholesterol of 300 mg/dl) benefit the most, while those at low risk (e.g. 25 years old healthy individual) derive little or no benefit.
