What exactly is metastatic colon cancer?

7 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Cancer that spread: Metastatic means that the colon cancer has spread to other parts of your body. This can happen when the cells get into your blood or the lymph system and travel to other places. Cancer cells can also spread to nearby tissue or organs via direct contact. The most common places for colon cancer to spread to are: lymph nodes, liver, lungs, and the peritoneum (a membrane in your abdominal cavity).
